Join the GTD-Feedburner network

A few months back, while clicking through my Feedburner statistics, I discovered a new service called the Feedburner Network. It gives you the opportunity to create a network of sites and webfeeds with the same sort of content, or covering the same topic or theme. I found out there wasn't a GTD network yet so I created one. I dropped a few emails here and there for others to join the network but quickly forgot about it. Until recently when I got some questions about it and I started looking into it some more. There might be some nice potential in this network to extend the already big community of GTD blogs into other areas.

What is this network exactly and why is it different from other networks? Coming from their own FAQ: "FeedBurner Networks empowers publishers to create their own communities. This kind of freedom to organize can be a powerful way for publishers to leverage the power of many to increase their reach online, attract more subscribers and potentially more advertising opportunities, if they so choose."

Check out the GTD Network's homepage and you will see four GTD blogs side by side. The great thing is, you can pick up one webfeed, covering all 4 the blogs. Pretty easy huh? Personally I am more and more into the aggregated feeds where I can see everything at once. The GTDIndex is a great webbased initiative, but the Feedburner network is RSS-based. So for instance, you can check it on your mobile RSS reader. Or you can add the feed to Netvibes and see it all as a "River of News". There is also a possibility to advertise on this network. I think there might be a market for software companies, gadget-makers and personal coaches to reach a very niche but very active audience.

If you have a GTD/personal productivity blog and want to be part of this network, drop me a line in the comments of this article and I will send you an email invitiation as soon as possible. There is no cost to join a Feedburner network and there are no exclusivity requirements associated with this service. So feel free to join in and let's create a big network of GTD blogs through RSS. And yes, perhaps make a little cash out of it. I am figuring out how the flow of the buckets of money will go once this thing starts rolling, but I am already thinking about donating percentages to a good cause. I am thinking in the direction of building schools, giving education, rebuilding local communities, small initiatives. Thoughts on this are also welcome in the comments.

WHat are your thoughts on this network? Good? Bad?

Nuance Labs would love to participate in this, at least with our GTD-oriented content.

“98) I could write my own book on productivity…or maybe I already have.” – GTD Mastery 100

I’ll try by starting with a blog. I’d like to be the new guy on the block, if the network’s willing to give me a shot =)
Chris Yeung - 04 03 07 - 23:02

Great idea. I’d like my site, Zen Habits, to be a part of the network. Thanks!
Leo - 05 03 07 - 00:13

Excellent Idea – please count me in!
Bob Walsh - 05 03 07 - 01:11

The new kid on the block made a mistake with the first invite. Please ship another invite =(
Chris Yeung - 05 03 07 - 02:35

Great idea, would love to be part of it too. My website contains a section on lofi office craft based partly on GTD.
judyofthewoods - 05 03 07 - 02:38

Frank, of course you can count me in… I am addicted to reading and writing GTD stuff! :)
gtdfrk - 05 03 07 - 05:46

If you also accept non-English blogs in the network, I would also like to participate. Of course I can understand it if you want to keep the feed English-only.
Jeroen Sangers - 05 03 07 - 09:58

Same as Jeroen, i have a dedicated feed for the GTD posts on my blog : http://doesnotunderstand.free.fr/?cat=7&..

My blog is mostly in french.
Serge Stinckwich - 05 03 07 - 12:28

This is a great and fun idea… Please shoot me a line — I’d love to be part of the gang…

Thanks,
Shawn

My blog is not completely GTD-oriented, but it seems I blog more and more including GTD topics these days.
CynicalGeek - 05 03 07 - 16:45

I’d love to have the Ho-ohana blog included. It’s a great idea.
Kara - 05 03 07 - 18:27

Hi. I was part of the original network you set up ages ago, but seemed to have fallen off of it. Invite me back? :)
GTD Wannabe - 06 03 07 - 01:22

Frank, many of my daily blog posts are GTD related. Count me in!
Mike St. Pierre - 06 03 07 - 03:51

Hey all, thank you for all your comments. I will send some more invites out this evening. So if you haven’t received one yet, please hold on just a while. I do have a day job you know :-)
Frank Meeuwsen - 06 03 07 - 08:52

This is a terrific boost for the GTD community. I just found the network this morning, and was looking for a way to take part. I am going to add the network feed to the lens I created at http://www.squidoo.com/gtdsystem
Thanks for the information!
Stephen - 06 03 07 - 12:07

If all went well, everybody should have received an invitation from Feedburner by now. If you didn’t let me know. I will keep an eye on the contents of the network feed to make sure it stays GTD related overall. If you have the possibility to make GTD-exclusive feed of your weblog (if you also write about other subjects) please feel free to use that one in this network.
My objective is to keep the feed focussed on GTD and personal/professional selfmanagement.

Thanks all for the response. I am very happy about this!
Frank Meeuwsen - 06 03 07 - 23:20

Yesterday, I subscribed to the feed, but I will unsubscribe again soon. I don’t like the feed for two reasons:

1. There is an enormous amount of items since there are listed a lot of different feeds about GTD.

2. There are weblogs in different languages, which I don’t speak. Every feed should be in English.
Christoph H. - 07 03 07 - 11:58

@Christoph: You have a point. But please do know that we are experimenting with this. What would be a good amount of different feeds be for you? And about the different languages, perhaps a separate feed per language? What are your thoughts and wishes on this?
Frank Meeuwsen - 07 03 07 - 12:29

People who write about GTD normally write long articles, so there should be not more than five items per day for me. I am reading a lot of other weblogs about webdevelopment or German GTD-blogs. If the Feedburner group grows, there will be perhaps 20 articles or more a day. Noboby can read this amount.

The language problem: I think the different languages should stricle be divided. For sure, there are weblogs in Germany which write some items in German and others in English. For this case, a German feed and an English feed would be a good solution.
Christoph H. - 07 03 07 - 12:37

The big number of posts is an inherent problem of group feeds. If you think that the GTD network produces too much articles, make your pick from the members of the network and subscribe only to their feeds.

The language problem is more difficult to solve. Some readers are interested in other languages, others are not. Unfortunately, current feed reader software have very limited per-feed filtering options. Frank has to make a decision about this, and for the moment he has decided to include feeds in other languages. Of course I can understand it if he decides to keep the network English-only.
Jeroen Sangers - 07 03 07 - 13:29

The GTD Network is a good idea, however, I still like to manage my feeds manually so to pick and choose the blogs I read (and exclude the non-english blogs).

Is there any chance as the moderator of this network you could announce each new blog as it comes online?
James L. - 08 03 07 - 09:26

Hi, I am an author of Gearfire Productivity (gearfire.net). We are focused on productivity, gtd, and organization in students, as well as in general. I am interested in joining the feed. Please check out our blog ;)

I would like to add my blog to the network. It is very much about getting things done – so much so that you can be extremely effective while working much less than the regular 9-5 grind.

Hoping I get an invite!
